Who we are!
Thanks for visiting The Kayak Fishing Web Site. I'm Dennis Spike and I formed the origins of Kayakfishing.com back in 1994. A longtime outdoor passion soon turned into a career change when my first magazine feature on kayak fishing was published in Pacific Fisherman, a popular West Coast sportfishing magazine. That's when the sport really started to take off. In 1997, Kayakfishing.com became the first kayak fishing web site and has gone on to bring thousands of new anglers to the sport from all around the world. Today, the site is visited by hundreds of new readers every day.... many return to The CKF Forums, a nest egg of kayak fishing information.
Several years ago my cousin and I rigged a couple of inexpensive plastic kayaks for fishing the Malibu coast and from day one, we had consistently better success than ever before. My first year in a kayak, I went fishing over 150 times in areas accessed almost exclusively by power boats...if at all. The quality of the catch and the experience changed my life as a fisherman. For many, kayak fishing becomes more than just a hobby or a sport and quickly turns into a lifestyle pursuit.
In the course of growing the sport, we've continued to direct our focus exclusively to kayak anglers in all the fisheries across North America. A handful of guides, industry reps Pro-staffers and other experts lend ongoing input. I personally guide a variety of sessions in the Wine Country of West Sonoma County, about an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Through the site, we further recommend a handful of experienced, California kayak fishing guides from San Francisco south to Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties.
Kayakfishing.com is not a kayak seller. There's no "online store" hawking you gear either. The outfitters advertised here, like the products and services, all have rock solid reputations, stock the full scope of products and take phone orders. Kayakfishing.com does not accept exclusive sponsorships or endorsements. The ads ads here are from leaders of the sport who have soul and didn't try to purchase ours for the benefit of a relationship. Our advertisor's products are proven and I stand behind these endorsements. That said, we readily recommend all the best kayaks for you based on your height, weight, fishery and particular needs. CKF appreciates a longtime reputation for recommending the best kayak models and gear for fishing. We are intimately familiar with ALL of the fisheries in North America, Hawaii and beyond and will resource the answers to any questions you have.
Trolling the pages and links on the web site, you will find lots of useful information on the sport for every level of participation and skill level. We hope you make this the first of many visits to Kayakfishing.com and invite your input on all aspects of the sport. Please let us know what we can do to make the web site more productive for you.
Take a look around and enjoy your visit. If you don't see what you are looking for, either send us an email message or, for a wider range of advice, post your questions and comments on the Message Boards . You can also phone us at 1-818-970-2392 for detailed information and referrals. Due to the high volume of requests for info, typing detailed replies is not usually possible and we appreciate your call. Always include your phone # and a good time to reach you in your correspondence. We have an "all kayak angler" staff to maintain this site and hope you will consider it your web site as well.
Continued Good Fishing,
Dennis Spike & The Kayakfishing.com Crew
